new foals

Foals are the end result of a breeding program. It is a challenge to cross mares with the stallions that you think will compliment them and not take your program backwards. The ultimate satisfaction is to raise a foal that is better than its’ sire & dam. This sounds easier than it actually is, as there are genes in the background of the parents that will show up and give you attributes that you aren’t expecting; sometimes good and sometimes not.

Come back soon for pictures as soon as the foals are born! Our first one is due April 4th! The next is April 6th! And the last is due June 12th!

Well, he was worth the wait! Hobby Chex Josephine gave birth to “Skittles” (new nick name) at around 9am Sunday, April 13th. Right now he’s a very light chestnut, almost pink, but we think he may shed his foal coat to palomino. He has several large snowflakes on one side and some smaller ones on the other side; just enough! He has two front half-3/4 socks and one hind half sock, and the cutest star on his forehead. The proud sire is our stallion, CR Skipp Array Gold Lad. His pending registered name is “LWF Lad’s Soldier Boy”.
